Tokyo is the capital city of Japan, a contemporary city with sky scrapers, high-end stores, and advanced technology. The heart of the city is the most populated urban centre in the world. Tokyo showcases the old historic Japan and the new, high-tech Japan in one metropolis. Among Tokyo attractions are these five favourites:
Chidorigafuchi
This amazing park area with hundreds of cherry trees in tight rows is located in Chiyoda, Tokyo. When the trees are blossoming in the spring, the park is popular for leisurely strolls and boat rides under the trees.
Edo-Tokyo Museum
A world-class museum in Sumida sharing the history of Tokyo, the features of this vast venue include Edo Castle, endless artefacts from the region, and a replica of the ancient theatre.
Meiji Jingu
In Shibuya after an easy walk from the subway, a moderate incline leads up a stone and gravel pathway to this Shinto shrine complex. Gifted to the Emperor and Empress Meiji, the two tall gates are impressive. The historic shrine is educational and the surrounding parkland is serene.
Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden
Young and old can enjoy the open space and quiet of this beautiful garden. The area is filled with colourful plants and flowers. The cheerful birds contribute to the atmosphere.
Tsukiji Market
This giant fish market in Chuo is opened to a limited number of the public at 9:00 a.m. The sushi served here is exceptionally sweet and fresh. Numerous stalls sell large, fresh chunks of tuna and other fish.
