Kyoto holidays live up to their reputation as the most beautiful city in Japan. The urban metropolis is punctuated by surprising pockets of nature and serenity in its parks and temples. The city represents an enchanting mix of modern and traditional Japanese life that offers rich cultural experiences, eye-catching architecture and natural wonders that will surprise and delight visitors.

Kyoto is home to 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites that highlight Japan’s cultural and military achievements. The Imperial Palaces and Villas give visitors a free and intimate view of royal life and are surrounded by stunning gardens featuring the city’s famous Cherry Blossom trees. The Cherry Blossom trees spring to life in early April. Bundles of pink and white blossoms can be seen throughout the city, but a walk down the Philosopher’s Path is particularly stunning. The city hosts many events to celebrate their beloved trees.

Visitors that are in Kyoto on May 15 will get a special treat. The Aoi Matsuri procession from Shimogamo Shrine to Kamigamo Shrine is a Japanese tradition featuring traditional dancers, musicians and other performers.

Japan’s currency is the yen, and ATMs are widely available throughout Kyoto. Spring an autumn offer visitors the best weather. Comfortable temperatures from March to May and September to November make outdoor activities possible. Those that come for the Cherry Blossom Festival can expect fickle weather and possible rains. The summer months are generally hot and humid and winters are quite cool.
